January – Winter Wonderland Event

Did you think that you would ever see snow in Los Angeles? Now you can! Watch it snow at our winter wonderland event with a snow play area and a sledding hill. Don’t forget your mittens!

 

February – Valentine Craft Spectacular

Love is in the air! The Chinstrap Room will be filled with markers, construction paper, and glitter to create a special something for your special someone.

 

March – Board Game Bonanza

Sorry, Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders, Life, Scrabble, Clue, Battleship, Trivial Pursuit, and many more! Come to the Macaroni Room to play your favorite game or discover something new.

 

April – Reptile Show

Have you ever held a snake? Pet a dragon? Raced a turtle? Now you can! My Reptile Guys will be wowing us with their reptile knowledge while introducing us to some of their favorite cold-blooded friends.

 

May – Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Dance, sing, and craft during our Cinco de Mayo Celebration. Enjoy the Mariachi band, traditional Mexican folk dancers, and food trucks. Create your own pinata craft.

 

(June, July, August – Summer Reading Program and Movies on the Lawn)

 

June – Summer Events Kickoff and Book Fair

Join us in celebrating the start of summer and all the fun activities planned. This annual event is the kickoff to our summer reading program. It also features a book fair, craft fair, author appearances, book signings, story times, and so much more! The day ends in our first movie night of the summer. 

 

July – Bubble Bonanza

Join us in the Humboldt Auditorium to learn about the science behind bubbles while watching a “bubble master” create amazing bubbles. Directly following the presentation, bubble play will take place on the front lawn.

 

August – Pony Rides and Petting Zoo

Get up close and personal with ponies, sheep, goats, miniature cows, bunnies, chickens, and even a donkey! The front lawn will be transformed into a barnyard so you can have the farm experience right in the middle of the city.

 

September – Ocean Adventures

In collaboration with the University of Southern California, engage in hands-on   learning activities about the ocean environment right outside our backdoor. Learn about how our actions affect our ocean neighbors and what we can do to keep them healthy.

 

October – Halloween Trunk or Treat

This neighborhood event invites families and businesses in the Playa del Rey and surrounding areas to get creative and transform their trunks into ghoulish goblins or sparkly castles for a fun trick-or-treat event. Dress to impress in your best Halloween costume.

 

November – Turkey Trot

Join us in November for our annual Turkey Trot fundraiser. Choose from running the 5K, 10K, or our kids ¼ mile. It’s a fun event for the whole family!

 

December – Bounce House Carnival

Bounce into the new year! The library front lawn will be invaded by bounce houses, obstacle courses, and carnival games.
